Frequently asked questions

Is there a dress code?

We don't enforce a dress code as we want you to be comfortable, but recommend Smart/Casual as an excuse to get dressed up!

Are children and babies able to visit?

The minimum age to dine here is 6 years old.  Children between the ages of 6-14 are welcome, with adults, if seated BEFORE 6.30pm.  We do not have high chairs, room for prams or baby changing facilities.  Having children of our own, this was a difficult decision for us to make, but, as we are very honoured and proud to continually host a very large number of marriage proposals, and anniversary/celebratory meals etc., we wish to ensure an ambiance conducive to these events.  There are a number of restaurants locally that welcome children and babies and we are happy to signpost you to them if required.

Do you take deposits and/or have a Cancellation Policy?

We do not take a deposit unless you do not turn up or give us sufficient notice (at least 4 hours). In this instance we will charge your card £25 per booked person.  You'll receive a reservation reminder email 48 hours before your reservation  so it's super easy to just click "Cancel" to avoid this charge. Our full cancellation policy and Terms and Conditions can be found under the "Ts&Cs" tab. Please do make sure you read this carefully as it explains our charges should you not show up for your table or not give us enough cancellation notice. You will be required to confirm you have read them during the booking process.

Can we bring our pooch?

We welcome your well behaved pooches but please remember to book a table in a dog friendly area; the conservatory or the outside terrace. Blankets and treats as standard!

What if I have dietary requirements?

You will be asked this question when booking on line and it’s important for us to know what we can do to make your visit safe for you, especially if you have any allergies or intolerances.  On arrival please request an up to date allergen matrix to help inform your choices and remember to tell a member of our team.  Our current allergen matrix is available to view on our "Menu" tab.

Coeliac: We can cater for coeliac disease with advance notice but would advise that we do have imported and gluten containing products in our kitchen which will make us unsuitable if you have extreme sensitivity.

Vegetarian: We have a good choice of vegetarian dishes available.

Vegan: We are not a vegan restaurant but do have a couple of vegan dishes available and would advise checking our menu before booking to ensure adequate choice for your personal preference and therefore avoid disappointment.

What size tables do you have?

Our tables can accommodate a maximum of four people. We do have one table that can accommodate five/six but this gets booked up very far in advance so if the reservation diary is showing no availability for your group, this will be why.

Do you have wheelchair access?

As the building is over 300 years old we do not have specific wheelchair access. There are two steps down from the bar area into the restaurant and several steps to the toilets.

Do you have outside seating?

We have a small outside terrace area that is covered and we have the ability to attach sides on drizzly days.  There is a heater above each table for individual heating control.  If tables area available, you will get the option to select them during the booking process.  This area is usually open June to October.

Should I prebook a taxi?

Taxi's can be notoriously hard to get as the evening passes so we recommend you reserve yours ahead of time.

If you’ve booked online and been given a time by which your table needs to be returned, please book your taxi for then.

If you have a later table, 7pm and onwards you are advised to prebook your taxi on the morning of your reservation., bearing in mind we close at 10pm.
